What does it feel like in the body to be a bystander to fascism?

This collaboration with choreographer Maura Gahan uses participatory movement, mask performance, image, text, and immersive sound to explore the embodied identity of the “bystander” and raise somatic awareness of how we respond to the threats of the current moment.

The piece has been performed at Goddard College in May, 2019 and at Bennington College in November 2020.

The sound is derived from a number of sources including Bronislaw Huber’s recording of Tchaikovsky’s D Major Violin Concerto, a recording found in Hitler’s bunker, and recordings of vandalism on the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration.
